Wayne started riding motorcycles when he was 5. He raced AMA district 37 (Southern California) Class C Flat track (250, 500 and 750) and also desert raced (250 and 500). Wayne successfully ran some sportsman drag racing in the early years. He took a break from motorcycle racing and rode two years of SRA (Southern Rodeo Association) Pro Rodeo. He rode Bareback Broncs and Bulls, Not exactly bike racing, but still some very exciting rides.
In 93 Wayne and his team, Jay Barker and Mike Schulz, built a Harley Pro-Mod dragster. From the first race in 94 to the last race in 95 They dominated Pro-Mod in the AHDRA (All Harley Drag Racing Association). Out of 19 races Wayne was number one qualifier 17 times, won 12 and was runner up 3 times. They won the national championship both years. They were the first Pro-Mod to run 8’s in the 1/4, first to run 140’s in the 1/4. They set 6 national 1/8 mile records (best 5.54 @ 121.6) And 8 national 1/4 mile records (best 8.92 @ 146.5).
In 1996 Wayne went to Texas as Crew Chief and Pilot of a turbocharged, mechanically injected, alky nitrous Pro-Gas Harley for Majestic Turbo. He and his team won five AHDRA national events, were the first Pro-Gasser to run 7’s in the 1/4, first to run 170’s in the 1/4, first to run 180’s in the 1/4, first to run 4’s in the 1/8, first to run 150’s in the 1/8. He set 7 national records (best 1/4 7.59 @181.5, Best 1/8 4.92 @ 151.2). The rules were changed the following year to make the bike move out of Pro-Gas, the records retired. The ET records were not bumped until 2003. The mile per hour records were not broken until 2005.
In 2002 Wayne ran the ECTA (East Coast Timing Assc.). It is a standing start 1 mile. He designed and built a Suzuki GSXR1300 (bone stock motor) with an Alky nitrous system injecting over the injected gasoline. The first time running the bike (September 02) with the nitrous system He set a new record at 205.00 mph.
In 2003 Wayne rode the Nitrous Hayabusa for Scott Guthrie Racing, winning the ECTA points championship. Wayne set over 30 ECTA records between 205 and 246 mph. Wayne joined Ray Price Racing at the end of the season. In just five full passes on the Ray Price Top Fuel Harley, Wayne became one of the three quickest T/F Harley pilots on the planet, running 217 mph in 6.33 seconds in the 1/4 mile. Wayne also recorded a personal best in the 1/8 mile, running 182 mph in 4.14 seconds.
In 2004 Wayne ran an astounding 205 mph in 4.1 seconds in the 1/8-mile on the Top Fuel Harley. Riding the Scott Guthrie Racing Nitrous Hayabusa Wayne once again won the ECTA points championship. Wayne set the ECTA unlimited record for unfaired bikes at 212.5 mph. He set 6 records between 245 and 249 mph. Wayne also earned his double A license by being officially timed at 250.55 mph. Wayne closed the LSR season holding nine 200+ mph records, 5 of them between 245 and 249mph.
In 2005 Wayne set the fastest speed ever officially recorded for an open wheeled motorcycle at 258.1 MPH on the Yancy Racing’s Turbo Hayabusa at the Maxton Monster Mile. At the same meet Wayne set 4 records of 253.1, 253.8, 254.8 and 255.5mph. To put it in perspective, at 258 mph you cover a football field in 0.7 seconds. Wayne also reset the ECTA unlimited unfaired record to 219.5 mph. Wayne closed the LSR season holding ten 200+ mph records, 6 over 245, 4 of them between 253 and 255mph.

In 2009 Wayne will be riding a turbocharged Hayabusa for Scott Guthrie Racing. The Goal of the Team is to bring the unlimited open wheel Motorcycle record back to the USA (currently 265 mph, held in England).

Wayne’s education background includes an Associate Science in Motorcycle repair and technology (Los Angeles Trade Technical College, 1974-75), a one-year certificate in electrical installation and maintenance (Wake Technical College, NC, 1980) and a six-month robotics course (taught by NC State, Duke and UNC at IBM, NC, 1992). He is currently employed at the GE Aircraft Engine facility in Research Triangle Park, NC. Wayne does prototype tool design and machining when he is not out competing.
